Your rest doesn't have to look the same this season + a free rest menu
Sep 15, 2026One of the things we love about the changing seasons is that they give us a natural opportunity to notice what we need now. What supported you in July might not be what supports you in September. Your energy may feel different. Your sleep may be changing. You might be craving more quiet, more warmth, more time at home. Or perhaps life is simply asking something different of you than it did a few months ago.
We can forget that our capacity and our needs are not fixed. We often create routines that work for a while and then wonder why they suddenly stop feeling good. Maybe your morning movement practice feels too much now that the mornings are darker. Maybe you need more down-regulation in the evening. Maybe you don't need another challenging workout at the end of a long day, but something that helps you feel safe enough to soften. Rest is not something we find once and then master. It can change from day to day, season to season, and sometimes even hour to hour.
So rather than asking yourself, “What should my rest practice be?”, you might try asking, “What do I need today?”
Here is a little rest menu to play with this month. Not a schedule, and definitely not a new list of things to achieve. Just some possibilities to choose from depending on what you need.
If you have five minutes: step outside without your phone, take a few slow breaths, or simply sit somewhere comfortable if it's warm enough and let yourself do absolutely nothing for a moment.
If you have twenty minutes: choose a short Yoga Nidra or meditation from our membership. You don't have to feel stressed or exhausted to practice. You can simply give yourself twenty minutes of not needing to be anywhere else.
If you feel wired: choose something that helps you come down rather than something that asks more of you. A slow walk. Gentle movement. Longer exhales. A warm shower. Lying on the floor. Less stimulation. Fewer decisions.
If you feel completely exhausted: perhaps rest really does mean rest. Not restorative exercise. Not stretching because you feel like you should. Not catching up on your phone while lying down. Let yourself be supported. Sleep if you can. Put your feet up. Cancel something if you need to.
If your mind won't stop: don't make quietness another thing you need to achieve. Try a guided practice that gives your mind something gentle to follow. Yoga Nidra can be particularly lovely here because you don't have to try to make your thoughts disappear.
If you feel like you haven't earned your rest: this might be the moment to practise resting anyway. You don't need to finish everything before you're allowed to pause. Rest isn't a reward for being productive enough. It is part of being human.
And perhaps this is the invitation for the rest of September: not to find the perfect rest routine, but to become a little more curious about your changing needs.
As we enter a new season, notice what your body is asking for. Notice what gives you energy and what quietly takes it away. Notice when you need movement and when you need stillness. Notice when you want company and when you need some time alone.
Your rest can change with you, and it doesn't have to look the same as anyone else's.
If this resonates with you, we invite you to pause, breathe, and reclaim your rest. Join The Rested You membership for guided practices, community support, and a space to reconnect with what truly nourishes you.
